Today the Reception children had an opportunity to see behind the scenes at Tesco! We visited the warehouse, delivery area, fridge, freezer, bakery and deli. They then used their shopping lists to buy items for the garden party. The children were amazing, using their reading, communication and numeracy skills.
The garden party was a real success, despite the rain. We even managed to plant some new flowers and strawberry plants in the Reception's garden, which were kindly donated by Tesco!
We would also like to thank Swarkestone Garden Centre for their kind donation of plant pots for our garden area.
Today we visited the National Space Centre in Leicester. There was lots of fun to be had, including launching our own rockets and watching a show in the Planetarium. Needless to say we were all exhausted after our adventure! A huge thank you to all of the adults involved. Take a look at some of our photos (captured by Mrs Oughton and Mrs Long)...
This afternoon we ventured out in search of clues hidden by Miss Kirkley. We had to look carefully at each photograph and walk to where the picture had been taken. We managed to identify lots of different human and physical features of the environment, and even had time for a play on the park.
As part of our ''New Life' topic we have been looking at what makes birds such a formidable branch of the natural world.
Today we are using our technical knowledge of birds, coupled with our creative engineering skills to create an object that can fly (glide). Of course, we are competing to see which one can fly the furthest...
Today the Reception children, with the help Malcolm, went on a walk around our village! We were looking for lots of one, two and three digit numbers and a variety of shapes. Also the children identified different types of dwellings. As a special treat, the children visited the local shop and used their number skills to purchase some yummy biscuits!
Many thanks to all the parent helpers who joined us on our fun village walk!
